Dalyko dėstymo metu pateikiama informacija: pagrindiniai organinės chemijos dėsniai; organinių junginių identifikacija; organinių junginių pavadinimų sudarymas; reakcijų mechanizmai bei jų tipai, cheminių reakcijų lygtys; cheminės jungties prigimtis; molekulių atomų sąveikos ypatumai. Supažindinama su galimais cheminių ryšių tipais priklausomai nuo substrato ir reagentų savybių bei reakcijos sąlygų.

Short course annotation in English (up to 500 characters)

The course provides fundamental knowledge in organic chemistry; identification of organic compounds; naming rules; reactions types/ mechanisms; chemical reactions of organic compounds. The course includes topics as: the origin of chemical bond; features of interaction between atoms; possible routes of chemical reactions in relationship with properties of substrate and reagents, reaction conditions.

Introduction to the basis of organic chemistry

Content (topics)

 1. Classification and nomenclature of organic compounds.
 2. Spacial structure of organic compounds.
 3. Atomic structure and origin of chemical bond. Covalent, hydrogen bonds and its properties. Geometry of the molecules. Atomic orbitals hybridization. Conjugation and resonance.
 4. Typical electronic effects of organic compounds molecules.
 5. Types of reagents and reactions.
 6. Acids and bases.
 7. Alkans. Alkenes Alkines. Halogenoalkanes. Cycloalkanes.
 8. Chiral molecules and optic activity. Enantiomers. Configuration establishing rules. Diastereoisomers and racemates. Stereochemistry of the additional reactions of alkenes.
 9. Benzene and aromaticity. Effects of substituents of aromatic compounds. Nucleophilic substitution in arenes.
 10. Alcohols and phenols.
 11. Ethers, epoxydes, thiols, thiolethers.

 12. Carbonyl compounds. Carboxylic acids and its derivatives. Hydroxy-, oxo- and dicarboxylic acids. Carbon acid derivatives.

 13. Amines.
 14. Quintuple heterocycles (pyrol, furan, thiophene, imidazole) ring synthesis principles. Quintuple heterocycles chemical properties and reactivity differences.
 15. Indole, synthesis and properties of its derivatives, reactions with electrophilic reagents. Pyridine, ring electronis structure, properties as a base. Synthesis of pyridine derivatives.

Distribution of workload for students (contact and independent work hours)

Lectures - 45 h., laboratory work - 30 h., individual student work  - 78 h, knowledge test -7h.

Structure of cumulative score and value of its constituent parts

Mid-term exam- 20 %, laboratory work report and test - 30 %, final exam - 50 %
